THE ANGLINGFOR.CO.UK MONTHLY/MOON and SPECIES TABLE FOR FEBRUARY 2012

NOTES FOR FEBRUARY 2012

We have still have had a fairly mild winter and last month should have been good for the roach. This month continues to be fairly good for roach but, CHUB are very much first choice In fact from now until the end of the season (next month) they may be the best species to go for. I have found they tend to shoal up in deeper water on some rivers at this time of year and then disperse back up rivers in the summer. These shoals can be quite large and the fish seem keen to feed. Deep water round bridges or deep glides are places to try. I think this may apply on smaller rivers in the main but, some research on your local rivers may be worth doing.

ROACH are still the second best species overall and still a good chance of a specimen but, CARP are well worth considering as well. They actually score quite highly from past records for February and the 1st quarter moon phase so, worth thinking about especially if the water temperatures and the weather conditions are right, worth a go.

And my first direction is, that if you will fish for a Carp, you must put on a very large measure of patience, especially to fish for a river Carp: I have known a very good fisher angle diligently four or six hours in a day, for three or four days together, for a river Carp and not have a bite. -Izaak Walton 1593-1683.
Not a lot has changed then!

The table below is based on records taken from the anglingfor database. It shows the species that have shown themselves to be the most prolific for the periods specified over the last 12 years. As a general seasonal guide it can be useful in helping you decide what to fish for prior to fishing. For a more comprehensive guide try the conditions/species program(click here). It costs a few quid but, it is a useful tool to have and takes into account your own local conditions (weather, temperatures, water col etc). There is a new version of this; it is simpler and easier to use. Look at example click here.

The first column is for the month and date

The second column indicates the moon phase for that date.

The 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th columns indicate the best species for the period specified.

The two best species are highlighted in red:-
